Commissions undertaken

November 8, 2008 by mwldesigns

Here you will be able to explore the individual pieces of furniture, which we have been asked to design and make for our clients. Each client has his/her own requirements and ideas of style and function. The commissioning process usually involves the following stages:

Initial Meeting

This will usually be in your home at a time to suit you, when we will discuss your specific requirements with you. Measurements can be taken, to ensure that the design fits your individual room. Our inspiration will be informed by your lifestyle choices in your home.

Initial Ideas

We will sketch some design ideas at this initial meeting and show you samples of timber and finishes to assist in the development of the design. An indication of price can be given at this stage.

Design Finalised and Agreed

If necessary, several options will be presented, from which you will be able to choose the design which best suits your needs. Once you have made this choice, a written quotation for the work will be produced. Once you have paid the deposit for the work, materials will be ordered, final working drawings prepared and indication of start, finish and delivery date given.

Production

Your furniture is made entirely in our workshop by our skilled craftsman, and you are welcome to make an appointment to visit the workshop to see your furniture being made, if you wish. You can be assured of personal attention at all times from design to delivery, as the craftsman who produces the initial ideas, will be the craftsman who actually makes and delivers your furniture.

Delivery

On completion of your furniture a time and date for delivery will be agreed. Our craftsman will unpack it and carry out any fitting that may be required. All packaging will be removed by us.

Bathroom cabinets – wall mounted

Bathroom corner cabinet

Bathroom corner cabinet

Our client’s ensuite bathroom was completely renovated and updated and we were commissioned to make a dark timber corner cabinet.  During the design stage we prepared several timber samples, and wenge was chosen by our client.  The interior of this cabinet is lined with maple veneer.  Two of the cabinet doors, in the corner of the unit, are bifold, giving full access to the inside.  At each end of the cabinet are single door cupboards, housing pull-out wire baskets.  The doors have soft close mechanisms.

The wall mounted cabinet leaves plenty of room for feet when using the washbasins, and we were able to mount the unit at exactly the right height for our client’s comfort.

This cabinet is designed for large model boats to be displayed behind locked glass paneled doors.  A dolls house will be displayed on top.  Our client requested a light timber – we used sycamore and made the handles and joint detailing in yew.

Drinks cabinet

Our client commissioned us to make a drinks cabinet to fit in the alcove in their open plan lounge/dining room in their modern house. They had recently purchased a dining room suite and this drinks cabinet was designed to complement this.  Click here to see our American Black Walnut and Rippled Sycamore cabinet; and here to view Slim Jim which can be used as a drinks cabinet too.
